Or I might cut them out of thin layers and stack them. So the idea is to CNC route these layers onto a single piece of material. I have a very basic understanding of 3d modeling, I just need someone to tell me how to do this exact thing, then I can start learning all the basics. Bodies, components, sketches, they're all just words to me. So I have a DXF file that is made of 5 layers. They're simple and not so precise that a quick image trace has any issues at all.Īfter I do an image trace, I've been exporting as a DXF since it seems like SVG's don't support layers. Illustrator and Inkscape are just too weird and clunky and Photoshop is perfect. I know it may seem smarter to just design an object in 3d, but it's very specific what I'm doing and that's not an option. Then when you stack all the layers on top of each other, they create a negative 3d image. I make 2d/2.5d things.įor simplicity's sake, let's say what I do is draw out 2d layers on a template, and the layers get smaller and smaller. So I'll be doing a LOT of the same processes and I need to streamline it. Hey! So I'm getting into CNC and I plan to spend days and days going through tutorials picking up tricks and learning this program, it seems pretty tough but it also seems like the best out there.īUT, I do need to figure out some things before I do all that.
